Steenwijk Vestingstad is a school assignment for which I have made a promotional website. I wanted to stand out from the crowd by creating a playful web app that includes fun transitions and illustrations.

The city map contains the main hotspots.

Onboarding

Upon visiting the site, visitors can choose the website language and the preferred type of tour. These settings can be changed at any time from the menu in the top left.

Sightseeing

When the visitor clicks one of hotspots, they will be taken to a detail view. This view can contain a list of facts or a timeline. For this list, I have made a div with overflow:hidden and a custom scrollbar. Images can be expanded by hovering on them.

Logo's

I wanted the logo to feature one of Steenwijk's most famous landmarks. I have experimented with various styles containing the Steenwijk Chruch, the Rams Woerthe gate and the Johan van der Kornput Statue.

Iconography And Illustrations

The websites icons and illustrations are created using the trace tool from Illustrator. I found the result to be very interesting and fun looking. In addition, I have created UI elements that try to mimic the style.
